Titanic Belfast Reimagined

Eleven years after Titanic Belfast opened its doors to visitors from all over the world, DJW is proud to have been part of the exceptional team responsible for delivering the refurbishment and re-imagining of over a third of the attraction.

Overview

The stunning and iconic building, which houses the Titanic Experience, is situated in the heart of Belfast on the historic slipways where it all began and tells the story of the ship, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900s, through her construction and launch, to her famous maiden voyage and tragic end.

Visitors can investigate the design and construction of the ship through an interactive floor projection game, explore what life was like for Harland & Wolff workers on the Shipyard Ride and take a moment to pause at a subtle and moving recreation of the ship’s last hours.

Guests then move into the refreshed spaces, past a solitary life jacket and down the stairs next to a backlit double height wall showing the names of all the passengers onboard Titanic on that fateful night, detailing their fate, if they were lost or saved. The journey continues, looking at large tumbling dominos representative of the chain reaction of events which caused Titanic to sink, and the measures put in place to prevent a tragedy like this from happening again, before following Dr Robert Ballard’s quest to fulfil his lifelong dream to discover the wreck of Titanic.

The visit continues with a spectacular addition to the Titanic Experience, the Ship of Dreams – a 9-minute 270° projected immersive show around a 7.6m long scale model of RMS Titanic suspended in mid-air and illuminated with over 300 metres of LED lights, programmed in sync with the projections.

The storytelling takes guests on a reflective journey of the hopes and dreams of those impacted by the famous ship – from the emotions of joy and pride in the ship being built, through the excitement and wonder of what opportunities may await its passengers, and the sorrow and loss associated with the tragedy.
